 Stand at the top of Mount Tarn in the Patagonian Andes, summited by Darwin himself, and look out of over the glory of the Southern Fjords and channels, all the way to Tierra del Fuego.

Itinerary

Itinerary subject to changes and substitutions based on climatic conditions.

Day 1: 

1: Hotel Pick-Up: 09:30-10:00

Get picked up from your hotel or accommodation in Punta Arenas to begin your journey and your adventure!

2: Museo Nao Victoria 10:15-11:00

Start your journey in Punta Arenas city with a trip to see a life-sized recreation of the Beagle, the great ship that carried Darwin on his adventure. Learn about the hardships of life on the high seas as you explore this incredible naval museum, home also to life-sized models of Magellan's Nao Victoria, Shackleton's James Caird, and the Goleta Ancud

3: Museo Natural Rio Secco 11:15-12:30

Get off the beaten tourist track to visit a very special collaboration between science and art at the Museo Natural Rio Secco and learn about some of the native flora and fauna that delighted Darwin during his time in this region. 

4: Cementerio Ingles 13:30

Head South from the city, stopping off on your way to pay respects at the final resting place of some of the original crew members of the Beagle. Learn about the twists of fate that caused Darwin to end up on his incredible journey to the South.

 

5: Arrive at Basecamp San Juan 14:00

Travel south along the coastline of the Strait of Magellan to our cozy basecamp in Rio San Juan. Explore the beautiful lenga forests around our basecamp in this little known hideaway in Patagonia's Southern extreme. 

 

6: Dinner 17:00

Enjoy traditional Patagonian fare, cooked over the fire in our traditional Patagonian Quincho. Swap stories and music around the fire,  stargaze, and rest in cozy cabañas to prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2:

1: Breakfast 07:00-07:30

Rise and shine to a hearty breakfast with plenty of mate and coffee to prepare you for the challenging hike ahead. Get a briefing on the day's conditions and hike before you set off on your adventure.

2: Fin de Camino 08:15- 08:30

Drive until the road runs out at the Fin de Camino- the end of Southernmost road in the Americas. Take a moment to prepare, stretch, and gear up for your challenging hike up Mount Tarn.

 

3: Hike up Mount Tarn 08:30-15:30

Follow the footsteps of Darwin up to the top of Mount Tarn, and experience the unique microclimate of the temperate rainforests of the Southern fjords. Work your way through dense forest, challenging peat bogs, and high Andean desert for a stunning (and windy) view of the secrets of Cabo Froward and South America's Southern tip.

Note: This hike is considered difficult due to its incline, climatic conditions, and variable terrain. Passengers wishing to stay behind to enjoy an alternate hike near Basecamp are welcome to do so. 

In the event of dangerously extreme climatic conditions, this hike may be cancelled or shortened and substituted for an alternate hiking activity.

4: Beachside Barbecue 16:00- 17:00

Celebrate your hiking triumph by relaxing beachside with a delicious barbecue before packing it in to return to Punta Arenas city.

5: Arrive in Punta Arenas  18:00

End your journey back where you started, in beautiful Punta Arenas, ready for new adventures when you come to see us again next time!
